Project

Overview

The City of Adelaide partnered with Porous Lane to deliver a durable and sustainable permeable pathway bordering the iconic Adelaide gardens. With a focus on both function and environmental impact, the project aimed to create a shared surface that blends seamlessly with the natural setting while standing up to urban demands.

PROJECT GOALS
  • Deliver a tree-friendly, crack-resistant path that could flex with root movement without compromising structural integrity

  • Ensure the surface could handle occasional heavy vehicle access without failure

  • Maximise use of local recycled materials, particularly end-of-life tyres, contributing to a circular economy

THE SOLUTION

Porous Lane supplied and installed a beige-toned permeable paving system designed for both resilience and environmental sensitivity. The rubber content from over 1,600 recycled tyres was incorporated into the mix, improving flexibility while offering excellent drainage and load-bearing capacity.

THE RESULT

The final outcome was a clean, visually cohesive shared pathway that enhances access around the gardens. Its durable, low-maintenance surface offers a long-term solution for both community use and environmental performance—supporting sustainable infrastructure and showcasing practical tyre recycling in action.
