Eco-Home – Leeuwarden, The Netherlands
Theo de Jong and Marike Kauer, along with their four sons, moved into their newly built eco-house in Leeuwarden in July 2018. From the beginning, sustainability was at the heart of their vision for their family home.
“We believe sustainability is important,” they share. “That’s why we wanted our new house to reflect those values. Choosing Hydraloop was a logical step.”
The couple installed a Hydraloop water recycling system as part of their home’s sustainable infrastructure. The system collects and treats greywater from showers and hand basins, making it available for reuse in toilet flushing, laundry, and garden irrigation—without any manual intervention.
“Hydraloop has a beautiful concept that allows us to significantly reduce our water consumption,” Theo explains. “Even though water is still cheap and readily available in the Netherlands, we can see that this won’t always be the case. It’s important to act now.”
They appreciate the hands-off convenience of the unit.
“You don’t even notice it’s there—it just works. It’s a great feeling knowing we’re reusing water without lifting a finger.”
Theo and Marike also recognize that they could maximize savings even further by adjusting when they shower or run the washing machine, guided by insights from the Hydraloop app.
“The idea that the water you use for showering can be reused for the toilet, washing machine, and garden just makes sense.”
In their eco-conscious home, sustainability isn’t a trend—it’s a lifestyle, supported by smart water recycling.
